How do I add guests to my list?

One by one with "Add guest", or all at once with "Import", from a CSV, an Excel file or your phone's contacts. The only required field is the name. Plus-ones stay tied to whoever invited them, and you can fix many guests at once.

There are two ways: one by one with "Add guest", or all at once with "Import", if your list is already in a file. Either way, the only required field is the name. Email, phone, dietary preference and notes can wait until you have them.

If your list is already in a file

You review row by row before saving; plus-ones arrive with their main guest.

"Import" sits above the list, next to "Add guest"; on a phone you only see its icon. You can also get there from the add form itself: "Have the list in a file? Import it".

It takes a CSV, an Excel file (.xlsx) or your phone's contacts (.vcf). The file is read in your browser, and only the rows you check are saved.

  • If we can't tell which column holds the name (a file with no column titles, say), we ask you what each column is. Anything you skip stays out, and "Change columns" lets you fix it later.
  • You review the list before saving: each row says whether it's new or already on your list, and below it you see how many you'll add and how many you'll update.
  • Upload the same file again and whoever is already on your list is recognized (by email, phone, or name within the same group) and updated instead of duplicated. If someone shows up as "New" and isn't, uncheck them before saving.
  • A file can hold up to 500 rows. With 50 or more, they arrive unchecked, so you pick who you're actually inviting.
  • Starting from scratch? Download the template, as a CSV or an Excel file, fill it in and upload it.

Your phone's contacts

On a phone, the same steps are right in the import sheet.

A .vcf file is your address book, exported. This is how you get it:

  • Android: in the Contacts app, open the menu (⋮) → "Settings" or "Manage contacts" → "Import or export" → "Export to .vcf file".
  • iPhone: the phone can't export the whole address book. On a computer, sign in to icloud.com with your Apple ID, open Contacts, select all and use the gear → "Export vCard".
  • Google Contacts: at contacts.google.com, tick the contacts you want (or all of them) and open the menu → "Export" → vCard format.

Then upload that file in "Import". The same steps are in the import window, under "How do I get the contacts off my phone?".

Plus-ones

The counts update themselves, and tapping one filters the list.

A plus-one is saved tied to the person who invited them, not loose in the list. That keeps your count from drifting and tells you who each plus-one belongs to. In the list, each family shows up folded under its main guest: tap the "+2" next to their name to see who's coming with them.

In a file, each person gets their own row. To bring someone in as a plus-one, write their main guest's full name in the "Plus-one of" column, exactly as it appears in the file: they join that main guest's group, with the same side and category. A "+1" or "+2" at the end of a name adds unnamed plus-ones.

If the list arrived flat, with everyone as a main guest, you can put families together from the guest details: open the person and, under "Plus-one of", pick their main guest. If they have plus-ones of their own, those come along. To turn a plus-one back into a main guest, use "Change main guest…" and pick "No one (main guest)".

Groups

Every guest belongs to a group, which pairs a side (the bride's, the groom's or both) with a category: family, friends, work or other. It's what you filter the list by, and later what keeps you from seating strangers together.

If you picked the wrong group, you can move the person at any time from their guest details. A plus-one always lives in their main guest's group: move the main guest and the whole family moves too.

Fixing many at once

Check several and change them at once; side and category reach the whole family.
It works the same on a phone: checking a main guest checks their family.

Tap "Select", check the people and open "Edit…". From there you change, for all of them at once:

  • Wedding side and Category. These reach the whole family, checked or not.
  • RSVP. Only the people you checked.
  • Plus-ones of. Makes them plus-ones of one main guest, the fastest way to put together a family that arrived flat. With "No one: make them main guests", it turns them back into main guests.

Checking a main guest checks their plus-ones too; if an RSVP change isn't meant for one of them, uncheck them. "Select all" checks whatever the list is showing at that moment, so you can search first.

The same bar has "Archive" and "Delete". Archiving can be undone: under the "Archived" filter, select them and use "Restore". Deleting asks first and can't be undone. Archiving or deleting a main guest takes their plus-ones along.

The numbers at the top (Total, Confirmed, Pending and Declined) filter too: tap one and the list shows exactly those people; tap it again to go back to the usual view.

Adding a guest asks for the minimum: a name. If your list is already in a file, the shortcut to import it is at the top.
